Provide comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys handling Medical Malpractice lawsuits in Chicago.
Expertly manage and organize complex case files, medical records, legal documents, and trial exhibits (both physical and electronic).
Meticulously maintain case calendars, court deadlines, statute of limitations, and hearing schedules.
Seamlessly coordinate and schedule depositions, independent medical examinations (IMEs), mediations, court appearances, and trials in the Chicago area.
Prepare, format, and proofread legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, briefs, and court filings according to Illinois court rules.
Conduct thorough review and accurate summarization of extensive medical records.
Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including the creation of trial notebooks, exhibit lists, and witness files.
Serve as a professional point of contact, communicating effectively with clients, medical experts, court staff, and opposing counsel in Illinois.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive patient and client information.
Efficiently process expense reports, vendor invoices, and other administrative tasks.
Proficiently utilize legal case management software and other relevant legal technology.
Assist with legal research related to Illinois medical malpractice law as needed.
Perform other administrative and legal support duties as required by the legal team in our Chicago office.
Qualifications:
10+ years of proven experience as a Legal Assistant specifically focused on Medical Malpractice law.
In-depth understanding of Illinois civil procedure and court rules related to medical negligence cases.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage all aspects of medical malpractice case files from intake through resolution.
Exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strong time management abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft professional correspondence.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Prior experience with legal case management software is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to interpret medical records.
Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, meet tight deadlines, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced Chicago legal environment.
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a valuable member of a legal team.
Professional demeanor, strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Paralegal certification or relevant legal secretarial training is a plus.
