Docketing Director (Remote with Limited Travel)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Work Model: Primarily Remote with ~15% travel to a local office (Seattle preferred)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. local time
Hours: Most offices work 37.5 hours/week; role may require occasional flex beyond standard hours due to national team locations
Target pay Range: $130,000–$235,000 (depending on geographical location)
Annual Bonus: Up to 10% (mid-year payout, based on firm + individual performance)

LHH is working with a national law firm who is seeking a Docketing Director to oversee a large, multi-location docketing team supporting litigation, trademark, and patent practices. This is a primarily remote role with approximately 15% travel to a local office (Seattle preferred)
The structure includes 3 direct reports (Litigation Lead, Trademark Lead, Patent Lead) and approximately 24 indirect reports.
The department is stable, organized, well-supported, and technologically advanced (including AI-enabled workflows).
Leadership & Management
Lead a team of 25+ docketing professionals across multiple locations
Manage staffing, workload planning, compensation decisions, and promotions
Support departmental change management and strategic initiatives
Operational Oversight
Evaluate and optimize docketing systems, processes, and accuracy controls
Maintain quality assurance protocols and ensure compliance with rules and statutes
Oversee training programs and maintain comprehensive docketing resources
Manage departmental budgets and expenses
Policy, Compliance & Collaboration
Maintain and update firmwide docketing policies and procedures
Function as the primary subject matter expert for litigation, trademark, and patent docketing
Ensure the department remains current on USPTO, federal, and state court requirements
Provide reporting and guidance to firm and practice leadership
Technology & Process Improvement
Oversee docketing software performance and partner with IT on enhancements
Identify efficiency opportunities through technology, automation, and best practices
Manage vendor relationships
Support analytics and reporting across multiple practices
Required Qualifications
10+ years supervisory/management experience, including 3+ years at a senior level
5+ years legal docketing experience in a large law firm or similar environment
Extensive experience in patent docketing (non-negotiable)
Strong experience leading large, multi-location teams
Advanced understanding of litigation, trademark, and patent docketing
Expertise with calendaring/docketing systems: CompuLaw, Pattsy Wave, FoundationIP preferred
Strong communication, relationship-building, and change-management skills
Must remain current on USPTO, federal, and state court rules
Preferred Skills
Experience with data analytics and AI tools
Familiarity with Power BI and Denodo
Experience within mid- to large-law environments
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred
