Mechanical Drafter II (Contract: 4–6 Weeks) – HVAC and Building Automation industry
Location: West Sacramento, CA - Onsite
Start: ASAP
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible start time and end time)
Duration: 4–6 weeks (paternity leave coverage)
Compensation: $38–$45 per hour (W-2)
Reports To: Director
Our client is a full-service HVAC, building automation, chiller, and retrofit contractor known for pairing high-quality consulting with customized energy solutions. Our integrated, single‑source model spans design assistance, engineering applications, and automated control systems.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Drafter II, you’ll support Mechanical Engineers, Senior Engineers, and the Engineering Manager/Director by producing detailed HVAC system drawings and documentation. You’ll operate independently, prioritize multiple projects, and help keep our CAD standards sharp.
What You’ll Do
Produce detailed schematics, layouts, and plan sets for HVAC systems in AutoCAD following established guidelines.
Assist engineers with job site surveys and convert field data into accurate, usable drawing packages.
Develop permit packages and ensure compliance with mechanical permitting requirements.
Maintain and improve the CAD Detail Library and CAD Standards; evaluate emerging CAD technologies.
Support project teams with copying/printing/scanning, assembling equipment submittal packages, and preparing work scopes.
Qualifications
Must‑Have
4+ years of CAD drafting experience with formal AutoCAD/REVIT training/certification.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.
Working knowledge of HVAC systems and components: Hot Water, Chilled Water, Condensing Water, Chillers, Fans, Heat Pumps, etc.
Familiarity with mechanical permitting submittal requirements.
Soft Skills
Strong verbal/written communication; collaborative across departments.
Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and comfortable making autonomous decisions.
Preferred
Background in HVAC/mechanical design industry.
