Mechanical Drafter II (Contract: 4–6 Weeks) – HVAC and Building Automation industry

Location: West Sacramento, CA - Onsite
Start: ASAP
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible start time and end time)
Duration: 4–6 weeks (paternity leave coverage)
Compensation: $38–$45 per hour (W-2)
Reports To: Director

Our client is a full-service HVAC, building automation, chiller, and retrofit contractor known for pairing high-quality consulting with customized energy solutions. Our integrated, single‑source model spans design assistance, engineering applications, and automated control systems.

Role Overview

As a Mechanical Drafter II, you’ll support Mechanical Engineers, Senior Engineers, and the Engineering Manager/Director by producing detailed HVAC system drawings and documentation. You’ll operate independently, prioritize multiple projects, and help keep our CAD standards sharp.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce detailed schematics, layouts, and plan sets for HVAC systems in AutoCAD following established guidelines.

  • Assist engineers with job site surveys and convert field data into accurate, usable drawing packages.

  • Develop permit packages and ensure compliance with mechanical permitting requirements.

  • Maintain and improve the CAD Detail Library and CAD Standards; evaluate emerging CAD technologies.

  • Support project teams with copying/printing/scanning, assembling equipment submittal packages, and preparing work scopes.

Qualifications

Must‑Have

  • 4+ years of CAD drafting experience with formal AutoCAD/REVIT training/certification.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems and components: Hot Water, Chilled Water, Condensing Water, Chillers, Fans, Heat Pumps, etc.

  • Familiarity with mechanical permitting submittal requirements.

Soft Skills

  • Strong verbal/written communication; collaborative across departments.

  • Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and comfortable making autonomous decisions.

Preferred

  • Background in HVAC/mechanical design industry.
