We are seeking a Property Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations for a residential rental portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate tenant and owner accounting across the full property lifecycle and works closely with operations teams in a fast-paced environment.
This position is ideal for someone with property management accounting experience who enjoys transactional accounting, organization, and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Handle tenant accounting across the full lifecycle, including move-ins, move-outs, security deposits, late fees, NSFs, and billbacks
Post rent payments, refunds, and maintenance chargebacks
Process accounts payable including HOA payments, maintenance invoices, eviction fees, and miscellaneous expenses
Perform monthly trust account bank reconciliations
Process owner transactions including contributions, distributions, and monthly statements
Support month-end close activities and financial statement review
Communicate regularly with operations teams to resolve accounting issues
Assist with new property onboarding, acquisitions, and special projects as needed
Qualifications
2+ years of property management or real estate accounting experience
Experience with property management software such as AppFolio or Yardi preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high transaction volumes
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Comfortable working independently and in a team environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
Preferred Experience
Residential rental or property management environment
AppFolio, Yardi, Rent Manager, or Propertyware
Trust accounting or tenant/owner accounting
