A leading UK-based business is seeking a highly capable and experienced Interim Group Tax Manager to take ownership of its tax affairs across the group. This is a hands on and pivotal role within the finance function and will require someone to provide cover while the business recruits on a permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of direct and indirect taxation: corporation tax, VAT, employment taxes, and customs duties.
- Oversee accurate preparation and review of tax returns and accounting entries.
- Enhance tax processes and systems to meet evolving regulatory requirements.
- Act as the primary liaison with HMRC, managing relationships and resolving enquiries.
- Provide tax input into regulatory returns and assess legislative impacts.
- Identify tax planning opportunities aligned with corporate policy and risk appetite.
- Monitor tax developments and communicate implications across the business.
- Support projects and transactions with commercially focused tax advice.
- Manage tax risks related to M&A and investment activity in collaboration with finance, treasury, and legal teams.
About You
- CTA or ACA qualified with significant post-qualification experience.
- Background in-house within a large group or from a professional services firm (Big 4 experience a plus).
- Strong technical knowledge of UK corporate tax, VAT, and employment taxes.
- Proven ability to manage tax compliance and advisory in complex environments.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Experienced in working with HMRC and external advisors.
- Commercially astute, proactive, and process improvement focused.
This is a standalone role, ideally suited to someone with a Big 4 background or significant experience in senior tax positions within large or listed organisations.
A competitive day rate or a fixed-term contract is available for the right candidate with a view to starting in December or early January.
