Senior Quantity Surveyor

South Wales

£Competitive Salary + Benefits

A major industrial organisation is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team supporting a landmark transformation programme within the UK steel industry. This fixed-term opportunity, running until March 2028, offers the chance to play a key role in delivering one of the most significant industrial investment projects in the country, focused on creating a more sustainable future for steel production.

Working as part of a dedicated commercial team on a large-scale infrastructure programme, you will take responsibility for managing the commercial and contractual aspects of significant construction and civil engineering workstreams. The role involves overseeing project budgets, cost plans and financial forecasts, ensuring strong cost control and value delivery across complex packages of work. You will lead subcontract procurement activities from tender through to final account, while managing supplier relationships and ensuring contracts are administered effectively. A key aspect of the role will involve assessing and negotiating variations, compensation events and change orders under standard forms of contract such as NEC, FIDIC or JCT. You will also contribute to claims preparation, commercial risk management and project close-out activities. Close collaboration with project engineers, planners and delivery teams will be essential in maintaining alignment between commercial objectives and project delivery. In addition, you will provide guidance and support to junior members of the commercial team, helping to foster a strong and collaborative working culture.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline and will have proven experience managing the commercial aspects of major construction, civil engineering or heavy engineering projects. Chartered status with a recognised professional body such as RICS or CIOB, or active progress towards chartership, would be advantageous. You will have strong working knowledge of contract frameworks including NEC3/4, FIDIC or JCT, alongside excellent commercial judgement, negotiation ability and analytical skills. The role requires someone who can confidently engage with a wide range of stakeholders while maintaining a proactive and solutions-focused approach to balancing cost, risk and project outcomes.

A competitive salary and benefits package is offered, along with the opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure project that will shape the future of sustainable steelmaking in the UK. This role provides the chance to work on a complex and high-profile programme while developing your experience within a collaborative and forward-thinking commercial team.
